If that fact isn’t enough to entice you, then you should take a short drive up to the Stamp River Falls in late September or early October to witness the hundreds of thousands of Chinook (King) and Coho (Silver) salmon that literally clog the river with life.
There is excellent fishing in the Alberni region year round, but without a doubt the best time to go for salmon fishing is in July, August and early September. June can also be an exceptional month for off-shore Chinook Salmon fishing.
Year Round Fishing
Port Alberni is one of the few places in the North America that can honestly offer exceptional year round fishing. If the salmon aren’t biting (which is rare), it is likely that the cutthroat trout and steelhead are ready to take the hook. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to bring your fishing gear if you are headed to Port Alberni – even if you’re just passing through.
